After completing a first phase of works to the rear terrace and pool areas the client was keen to have the tired patch of grass out the front turned in to something more in-keeping with the house and useable. The area had been a dumping ground for soil from previous building extensions that covered the old drive and the client wanted a kitchen garden with plenty of area for planting. A concept was drawn up that created a simple parterre of beds that could be pockets of formal planting nearer the house then vegetable and flower cutting beds further away. Due to the soil conditions these also needed to be raised beds to allow some decent quality soil to incorporated. The area was retained and screened off with Yew hedging, metal edged Breedon gravel path ways that linked everything together and bespoke Oak raised beds were created. Sizeable specimen planting gave the area a more immediate impact and subtle lighting allows it to be enjoyed when the sun goes down at the end of the day or from inside the house on the chilly winter nights.
