Brief;

The old garden was mainly laid to lawn with a handful of mature shrubs punctuating the ground. The largest of these along the rear boundary screened the house behind whose land was once the extended garden of the house. A neighbouring Acer nestled nicely towards the rear corner, providing foliage contrast to the Holly beside it but along with the old grey terrace outside the house the garden was in need of a vital injection of life and colour that would complement the clients house, a gentle mix of modern and traditional styles. The lower brick wall needed clothing to disguise the plain, utilitarian brick so Trachelospermum jasminoides was trained on wires. Small pockets of planting spill out over the paving’s edge and soften the house. A Corten water feature provides a focal point from the terrace and kitchen/ diner also providing a gentle sound to take away from external noises.  The rest of the garden was laid to a new lawn and widened borders filled with a mix of both architectural planting along with herbaceous perennials, grasses and some shrubs to provide a backbone and link to the existing planting that was retained or moved. All to provide year-round interest and changes in the seasons all viewed from the house’s large windows or new, enlarged terrace.
